KPC Series Fine Precision Air Chucks
KPC Series
Novel structure Fine Chuck with 1-micron of ULTRA-HIGH ACCURACY.
ADVANTAGES:
- Superior chucking precision
Kitagawa air chuck grips inner and outer work diameters within a tolerance of 0.001mm T.I.R. for repeatability.
- High reliability
The meehanite metal is used in the main body and hardened steel in the master jaw. They are lapped so that they are completely engaged with the wedge shaped mechanism. In this way, precision is not decreased even after prolonged use under standard operating conditions.
- Adjustable chucking force
Chucking force can be adjusted easily by the regulator within the range of 0.8kgf/cm2 - 7kgf/cm2. Thin walled components can be processed without distortion by lowering the pressure. (Raise the pressure for processing heavy work.)
- Improved productivity
Chuck can be opened and closed by a switch valve (or a solenoid valve) to load and unload components easily and quickly. Because of its improved repeatability, aligning is not required for each component. Precision will not change if work is re-chucked after it has been processed once and then removed - thus reducing worker fatigue and greatly improving productivity. Components can be chucked both at inner and outer diameters.
- Easy installation
Chuck can be installed easily by using the retainer and the chuck adaptor. With the cylinder built in to the chuck, it is light weight and extremely simple in structure. Therefore it can be installed easily by holding the air feed tube assembly with the retainer, inserting it through the inner diameter of the main shaft and connecting it with the chuck.

Work Jaw for air chuck.
We produce two kinds of jaw blanks. One is the standard type and the other is the pie shaped type which has been designed to eliminate work distortions. Kitagawa jaws can be installed and removed very easily and re-used for various types of processing. Each type of jaw can be used for installation both at the inner and outer diameter.
Instructions for installation
-
Install the Kitagawa air chuck correctly to achieve its maximum performance.
-
Process the adaptor for installing the air chuck precisely, without producing end face run-out.
-
The retainer is used for holding the feed tube. It is processed to comply with the diameter of the main shaft.
-
Install the chuck adaptor at the top of the main shaft and insert the feed tube assembly through the retainer.
-
Connect it with the installation port of the chuck. In connecting them always hold the feed tube and tighten by hand. Do not turn with pliers or any other tool.
-
Tighten the knock pin and fix it at the grip.
-
Next, install the air hose. Be sure that the air control unit IN and OUT are not mistaken for each other.
-
Be sure that dust or dirty air does not get inside.
General instructions
-
With maximum processing using the air chuck, take as much care in handling the jaw and the work as in handling the block gauge. Keep the surroundings clean.
-
In machining the jaw, always let it grasp the attached loading pin and machine it larger by about 0.05mm than the largest diameter of the work (if grasping at the outer diameter). After machining, remove the burrs.
-
In processing thin work, pressure shall be kept at the minimum - only enough to grasp the work. For improving distortion, use the pie shaped jaw.
-
For lubrication to the air chuck, supply the attached oil, including molybdenum disulphide, every 50 hours.
-
Maximum allowable rpm is restricted depending on the size of the jaw.
