FOUR VERY GOOD REASONS YOU NEED TO GREASE YOUR CHUCK

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO GREASE YOU YOUR CHUCK?

At least once per day, however for intense machining situations (maximum rotation speeds and/or where large amounts of water soluble cutting oil is being used) where the machines are being used 24hrs per day then the chucks should be greased once per shift.

WHY SHOULD YOU USE KITAGAWA GREASE INSTEAD OF OTHER GREASE?

Under the microscope even the most highly polished steel surface is very rough and if two surfaces are allowed to contact each they will rapidly cause wear which will effect the accuracy of the surfaces (and therefore your chuck).

So to keep these surfaces apart you must use a lubricant or grease to allow the surface to move without touching, as shown below.

                                                           Grease

However many people make the mistake of using standard grease or Lithium grease in their chucks as this is often the most readily available grease in a workshop. These types of grease do not operate well under extreme loads as they are liquid hydrodynamic grease, therefore causing the grease to fail to prevent metal to metal contact as shown below.

                                                         Extreme loads

Kitagawa Grease is a boundary grease which has a more solid consistency resisting these extreme loads preventing metal to metal contact and grease movement out of the chuck at high rotation speeds, as shown below.
